A highpoint of 2014 came back in the spring when we worked with the talented Mary Dalton on Ebb and Flow, a book which accompanied an exhibition of the same name to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings from Gosport. Mary’s prints, an evocative collection of stone lithographs, etchings, woodcuts and collographs, sit alongside reminiscences of Gosport residents who were alive during the war, and provide a reminder of the impact of war on local residents.
For text we used 18-point Caslon and on the title page, in a dark turquoise, 72-point Cochin bold with the prominent fl ligature. For paper we went for a favourite, Bugra Butten, in a purple shade which provides contrast to the smooth white Zerkall used for the illustrations. Mary’s prints were editioned at Artichoke Printmaking and Washroom Press and the book was bound by The Fine Book Bindery, Wellingborough.
A small edition size means this book is now out of print, though there are copies in the British Library and the Imperial War Museum.
